Currently knitting with…

February 27, 2011

I’m definitely in a knitty phase at the moment. I’m not sure why — I normally prefer the speed and colourful, often retro results of crochet, but at the moment most of the things on my to-make list are knitted.

I’ve been stashing this lovely Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino for a while – it’s (almost) all been purchased in John Lewis yarn sales over a couple of years, for no good reason other than that I couldn’t resist the colours or lovely squishyness of it. Now with a little man on the way, I don’t have to look far to find an excuse to start using it up.

It’s lovely to work with and the first project is almost complete. Here’s a sneak peek:

Very restrained, don’t you think? I’m only using two colours rather than an entire rainbow. I’ve had to learn a new skill for this item — knitting on a circular needle. I’ve always knitted socks on DPNs and found circular needles a rather strange idea, but I seem to have picked it up okay, after the initial tangle.

90 middles

March 17, 2010

I’ve been saying for some time now that I should really get back to my hexagons. It’s been almost a year since I first posted about them — the day my yarn arrived was very exciting and it wasn’t long before the blanket started taking shape. But I got distracted by other projects and my hexie has been untouched since last August.

…Until recently, that is. You might have spotted a shot of lots of crochet “middles” in the post about my new greenhouse a couple of weeks ago — well, now they’ve grown into larger middles. Lovely flowery coloured circles, waiting to be turned into hexagons and joined into the blanket.

It’s almost a shame, since they look so gorgeous in their own right as flowery circles — but hexify them I must — and the hopefully the hexy will look just as yummy as the middles do.

I’ll keep you posted.

Yarn sale

July 7, 2009

I treated myself last weekend, to lots of lovely yarn. I’d been given some John Lewis vouchers for my Birthday earlier in the year, which I had been keeping for something special. We walked into the store to look for something else completey different to find they had an amazing yarn sale on, and what’s more special than that?

Chevron Lace w.i.p.

So here is the start of a new project which takes advantage of one of my new purchases. Can you tell what it is yet?
