Hooded striped top

June 2, 2011

I admit it – I love stripes. And I love my little stash of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino.

Here’s something I made which combines both. It was almost finished when Baby D arrived — I just needed to add some buttons and to weave in the last few ends when I had to go into hospital.

It’s rather similar to the striped cardigan I posted about back in March, but the colours are quite different and it’s a larger size — I went for 6-9 months this time. I was particularly pleased with myself for managing to get the buttonholes right — it’s something I’ve always had difficulties with but now I’ve worked it out I’m not sure what all the fuss was about!

It looks enormous next to Baby D — it’s hard to think he will ever grow into it — but I mustn’t wish the time away. It should fit him by the autumn/winter and judging by how fast the days are sailing by already, I shall wonder where his first six months have disappeared to. I want to hold on to each day and make it last — even the tricky bits when he’s crying and I’m exhausted — keep it safe before it slips away.

Anyway, enough sap — here are those details!

Pattern: Hooded Striped Top by Debbie Bliss – from ‘Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino’
Size: 6-9 months
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino
“Main” colour: I alternated between 340033, 340043 and 340051 to add some interest (less than one ball of each — you can see how much was left over in the picture)
“Contrast” colour: 340045 (just over two balls)
Pleased as punch: totally!
