Chilly winter, toasty toesJanuary 17, 2010
It’s been cold round here — really cold. Until the rain came this weekend, we’d had snow since before Christmas — the coldest cold snap the UK has seen in thirty years.
I was unable to get in to the office for quite a lot of the time the snow was here but am fortunate enough that I can work from home. One of the benefits of this is that I can wrap up as cosy as I like, and have been enjoying wearing my hand-knitted socks. It made me decide that I clearly don’t have enough and that I should make a dent in the stack of stashed sock yarn that’s taking over the spare room.
I searched around for short-sock patterns and have just completed these — just in time for the rains to wash away the snow and the sun to come out again!
Pattern: Summer sneakers
Yarn: Regia 4-ply Design Line by Kaffe Fassett – Exotic turquoise
I’d never done a short-row heel before and nearly had big problems when I found the pattern didn’t explain how this was done. The first tutorial I found was fairly disastrous (I even broke a needle in the process) but after ripping back and googling some more, this tutorial saved the day.
They’re little shorty ankle socks and it’s nice to be able to get an entire pair of socks out of a single 50g ball of yarn. (Just!)
